PENTAGON EMERGENCY ROOF REPAIRS

- This project included reconstruction of slate and built-up roofing systems damaged by the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001
- Slate roofing systems on Corridor 3, portions of Corridors 4 and 5, and the A-Ring roof between Corridors 4 and 5 were stripped down to the structural concrete deck, and reconstructed with a new rubberized asphalt sheet membrane course, treated wood decking/ sleeper system, and salvaged/ new unfading green slate
- Ridge and eave ventilation systems firebreaks and fall protection systems were incorporated into the design
- Flat roofing systems on A, B, C, and D Rings were replaced between Corridors 3 and 4, as well as B Ring roof between Corridors 4 and 5, and a portion of the light court roof between the A and B Rings between Corridors 4 and 5. Fall protection systems were incorporated into the design
- National Roofing Contractors Association provided over $400,000 in donations of labor and materials towards the roof repair
- The project was a design-build effort
